LEFFL competed in the USFTL National Championship Tournament
The 3rd grade LEFFL Rockets traveled to Kissimmee, FL this past weekend to compete in the USFTL National Championship Tournament. The single elimination tournament hosted teams from all over the country as well as several Florida teams. Saturday’s seeding games determined the brackets for Sunday’s tournament play. Unfortunately for the small Rocket team, the local competition proved to be too tough, with the Rockets unable to out-run or out-score Florida’s Little Dolphins. In a heartbreaking, game one loss, the Rockets took home a seventh place finish.
The LEFFL Rockets earned their bid to this national tournament by taking first place at a regional qualifier in November, held in Mentor, Ohio. The team, coached by Jake Jacobs, Craig Ish and Jim Ridener, consisted of eight boys: 6 from Oak Harbor schools and 2 from Lake. The boys logged many hours in practice time as well as fundraising to support their trip to Kissimmee. Generous sponsors included Walker Family Funeral Homes, Laub Family Eyecare, and National Bank of Ohio as well as several other smaller sponsors. The team would like to thank everyone who supported them this season, cheering them on at practices, donating generously to the fundraising, and wishing them luck at every step of the Road to the National Championship. It was a memorable experience for this young group of boys.
Team Roster: Levi Jacobs, Luke Jacobs, Gannon Duty, Brenen Ish, Jaxon Delventhal, Brady Walleman, Ryan Ridener, and Tyler Saffran.
