Local ‘Youth for Christ’ attend ‘Niagara 2011’ Conference in NY
26 Area Youth and 11 adults recently joined the local Youth for Christ of Northern Ohio / Sandusky Valley Chapter volunteers and attended ‘NIAGARA 2011′ a youth ‘God Encounter’ training Conference in Niagara Falls, NY on December 27–30, 2011. The group traveled by chartered bus for the 13th consecutive year. Participants included 26 teens and 11 adults from Fremont, Lindsey, Oak Harbor, Greytown, Norwalk, Collins, Tiffin, Celina, and Taccoa Falls GA.
The Niagara youth conference was first held in 1993 and is an annual event held on Dec. 27–30 by the interdenominational organization, Joshua Revolution. The event is for families, youth grades 6–13, and youth leaders. The mission of NIAGARA 2011 is to give every participant the opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ in a life changing way, to teach every person how to walk in victory over sin, and how to share their Faith! Expository Bible training provided students specifics on how to live differently knowing Jesus Christ in a personal way. Niagara 2011 bridges several cultural, church affiliations and geographic divides. Over 2,500 youth attended from the U.S.A. and Canada.
This year’s theme was “The Tabernacle” and the theme Bible verse was Amos 9:11 which says ‘On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David’. Three thousand years ago, King David led the procession that brought the Ark of

the Covenant into the city of Jerusalem and placed it under a tent. The Hebrew people worshipped God before the Ark non-stop for an estimated 36 years. At Niagara ’11 students and leaders learned the symbolic truths of the Old Testament Tabernacle, the significance and attributes of the Ark of the Covenant, and how to apply teachings to their lives today as believers in Christ through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
David was used by God to take down Goliath, he was a warrior in battle, he was a worshipper and song writer who wrote most of the Psalms, but King David’s greatest accomplishment was bringing the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem. The Bible states that God will not rebuild the original Tabernacle of Moses or the beautiful Temple of Solomon, but He will rebuild David’s Tabernacle.
Over 50,000 students and leaders from different denominations and ethnicities have been reached through a Joshua Revolution Youth Conference since 1993. The Lord did great and mighty things through this year’s event Niagara ’11 which was not a physical reconstruction of David’s Tabernacle, but a rebirth of the passion that caused the Tabernacle to be built in the first place.
The youth and adults participated in refreshing worship led by several worship teams and heard power session speakers such as Reggie Dabbs (who yearly speaks to over 1 million youth world wide). Reggie told the kids that they can ‘kill the giants in their lives’ that they personally struggle with (just as David killed Goliath). Other speakers included Loren Larson, Derek Levendusky, Bob Cornell, and Joshua Revolution Director and Founder Mike Chorey who spoke on several topics relating to the Bible topic of the Ark of the Covenant and how to apply that teaching to their lives. One YFC adult leader said that the conference power sessions led to deep discussions with kids in their nightly hotel room devotions. Seven local youth indicated that they had made either first time personal decisions to follow Christ or rededicated their life to Christ at Niagara 2011. One local youth also participated in Believer’s water baptism service held at the conference at the Sheraton Hotel Pool where local YFC youth stayed.
Local adult volunteers are currently serving with Youth for Christ / Northern Ohio in Tiffin, Fremont, Collins, and in Wadsworth. In Fremont, volunteers weekly share hope and good news with youth at the Sandusky County Detention Center and others through a home Bible study. A Spring chartered bus trip to the Creation Museum in KY is being considered.
